本週牧師講道的經節 馬可 九章 30～37
9:31 因為他正在教導門徒。他說：「人子將被交在人手裏；他們要殺害他，死後第三天，他將復活。」
9:32 可是他們不明白這話的意思，卻又不敢問他。
9:33 他們來到迦百農，進屋子後耶穌問他的門徒：「你們在路上爭論些甚麼？」
9:34 他們都不作聲，因為一路上他們在爭論誰最偉大。
9:35 耶穌坐下，叫十二使徒到他面前，對他們說：「誰要居首，誰就得居後，作大眾的僕人。」
9:36 於是他找一個小孩子來，叫他站在他們中間，又抱起他，對他們說：
9:37 「為了我而接待這樣一個小孩子的，就是接待我。接待我的，不僅僅是接待我，也是接待差我來的那一位。」
Notes on the selected passage: Mark 9:30-37
1) Passion Predictions
This is the second of three passion predictions of Jesus (8:31; 9:31; 10:33) in the book of Mark. These predictions form the structure of the section, the content for the section (Jesus’ suffering, death, and the meaning of genuine discipleship) and the mood of the section (i.e., a somber mood). What is interesting is that after each passion prediction, Mark records both the misunderstanding of the disciples and then Jesus’ teaching on the nature of his death and what genuine discipleship is all about: (1) denying oneself (8:34-38); (2) humility and serving (9:33-37); (3) suffering, humble service, and not lording it over people (10:35-45).
2) Teach rather than rebuke
It is important to differentiate the responses from Jesus when he was misunderstood by the disciples. In the first passion prediction, after Peter tried to stop Jesus from carrying out the will of God, Jesus rebuked Peter harshly. In the second passion prediction, facing the argument amongst the disciples that ‘who was the greatest’, Jesus taught
3) Paradoxical wisdom of ‘Servant Leader’
"If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all." (v.35) Once again, such wisdom goes against all conventional wisdoms of humankind. Once again, such wisdom can only be understood in the context of the passion of Christ. Jesus himself set the perfect example of being ‘the servant of all’ – an example that disciples and subsequent church leaders are called to follow.
4) Welcome a little child
This verb ‘welcome’, δέχομαι (decomai) in Greek, is a term of hospitality. Children were very insignificant in ancient culture, so this child would be the perfect object lesson to counter the disciples’ selfish ambitions.

Aaron Tsay said...We're having our first worship team practice tomorrow night. Hopefully, the practice will be extremely efficient as most of us have other heavy workload to attend to.
- I would like to ask you guys to pray for me as I am still struggling and trying to manage my time properly. I have been fully committed to playing basketball and serving in a sports ministry with other youths from different churches in Montreal. As a result, it is taking a lot of my time and I'm trying to balance that with my studying. Pray that God may grant all of the students efficiency while studying and to be productive.
- Also would ask if you guys could all pray for Hernan. He seems to be missing home already. Pray that God may send angels around him so that he may feel love, joy and peace from God.
