Grain, New Wine, and Oil
Scriptures: Joel 2: 18-27
18 Then the LORD will be jealous for his land
and take pity on his people.
19 The LORD will reply to them:
"I am sending you grain, new wine and oil,
enough to satisfy you fully;
never again will I make you
an object of scorn to the nations.
20 "I will drive the northern army far from you,
pushing it into a parched and barren land,
with its front columns going into the eastern sea
and those in the rear into the western sea.
And its stench will go up; its smell will rise."
Surely he has done great things.
21 Be not afraid, O land;
be glad and rejoice.
Surely the LORD has done great things.
22 Be not afraid, O wild animals,
for the open pastures are becoming green.
The trees are bearing their fruit;
the fig tree and the vine yield their riches.
23 Be glad, O people of Zion,
rejoice in the LORD your God,
for he has given you
the autumn rains in righteousness.
He sends you abundant showers,
both autumn and spring rains, as before.
24 The threshing floors will be filled with grain;
the vats will overflow with new wine and oil.
25 "I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—
the great locust and the young locust,
the other locusts and the locust swarm —
my great army that I sent among you.
26 You will have plenty to eat, until you are full,
and you will praise the name of the LORD your God,
who has worked wonders for you;
never again will my people be shamed.
27 Then you will know that I am in Israel,
that I am the LORD your God,
and that there is no other;
never again will my people be shamed.

18 耶 和 華 就 為 自 己 的 地 發 熱 心 ， 憐 恤 他 的 百 姓 。
19 耶 和 華 應 允 他 的 百 姓 說 ： 我 必 賜 給 你 們 五 穀 、 新 酒 ， 和 油 ， 使
你們飽足；我也不再使你們受列國的羞辱；
20 卻 要 使 北 方 來 的 軍 隊 遠 離 你 們 ， 將 他 們 趕 到 乾 旱 荒 廢 之 地 ： 前
隊趕入東海，後隊趕入西海；因為他們所行的大惡（原文作事）
，臭氣上升，腥味騰空。
21 地 土 啊 ， 不 要 懼 怕 ； 要 歡 喜 快 樂 ， 因 為 耶 和 華 行 了 大 事 。
22 田 野 的 走 獸 啊 ， 不 要 懼 怕 ； 因 為 ， 曠 野 的 草 發 生 ， 樹 木 結 果 ，
無花果樹、葡萄樹也都效力。
23 錫 安 的 民 哪 ， 你 們 要 快 樂 ， 為 耶 和 華 ─ 你 們 的 神 歡 喜 ； 因 他
賜給你們合宜的秋雨，為你們降下甘霖，就是秋雨、春雨，和先
前一樣。
24 禾 場 必 滿 了 麥 子 ； 酒 醡 與 油 醡 必 有 新 酒 和 油 盈 溢 。
25 我 打 發 到 你 們 中 間 的 大 軍 隊 ， 就 是 蝗 蟲 、 蝻 子 、 螞 蚱 、 剪 蟲 ，
那些年所吃的，我要補還你們。
26 你 們 必 多 吃 而 得 飽 足 就 讚 美 為 你 們 行 奇 妙 事 之 耶 和 華 ─ 你 們
神的名。我的百姓必永遠不至羞愧。
27 你 們 必 知 道 我 是 在 以 色 列 中 間 ， 又 知 道 我 是 耶 和 華 ─ 你 們 的
神；在我以外並無別神。我的百姓必永遠不致羞愧。

In the midst of suffering when others taunt the people of God, saying, “ Where is their
God?” God replies to His people, saying, “ I am sending you grain, new wine and oil,
enough to satisfy you fully” (Joel 2:19)
在苦難中，人們羞辱嘲笑上帝的百姓說:「他們的 神在哪裡呢?」上帝應允祂的百姓
說:「我必賜你們五穀、新酒和油，使你們飽足」(約珥書2:19)
1 . Grain, new wine, and oil represent God’ s concrete and abundant blessings to the
Israelites
五穀、新酒和油代表上帝對以色列百姓實際又豐盛的祝福
These three were the premium agricultural produces for the Israelites at that time.
對當時的以色列百姓來說，這三樣東西是最主要的農產品
These blessings were possible only after a period of peace, stability, and rain.
這些祝福只有在一段太平、安穩的日子之後，再加上充分的雨水才有可能實

2 . These blessings come only after repentance, and acknowledgement of God’ s total
sovereignty
這些祝福只有在悔改，承認上帝攏總的主權之後才會臨到
Repentance was the primary requirement before the blessings - "return to me with
all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning." (v.12)

God is in total control! Even the locus armies were part of God’ s will.

3 . What these blessings mean for us here, today.

Imagine three concrete blessings that you most need and want, God is willing to
give you more than enough to ‘ satisfy you fully’ (v.19).

Both suffering and blessing are part of God’ s design for us to eventually
acknowledge that God “ is the LORD our God, and there is no other.” (v.27)

Rejoice and be glad. When we are right with God, when we are willing to give ourselves
to God, God’ s blessings to us is beyond our expectation.
當歡喜快樂。我們與上帝的關係若是四正，我們若願意將自己交託給上帝，上帝所
要給我們的祝福將會超越我們所期待的。
